Pressed Metal or Pressed Tin as it was commonly known in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s are decorative metal panels traditionally used for ceilings, walls and outside cladding of houses, gables and awnings. It is now mostly manufactured in aluminium but available in special orders of galvanised steel, copper and brass from Australian Pressed Metal. With the metal panels now pressed in aluminum they are more versatile and their use is more varied.

How are panels made?
Australian Pressed Metal Panels are manufactured here in Australia from premium quality 0 grade aluminium. The panels are pressed from original TW Inghams dies and original designs to original imperial measurements, (feet and inches) and meet heritage architectural standards.
What are the sizes of the panels?
The most common size of the majority of panels are (2' x 6') or approx. 600mm x 1800mm ( 60cm x 1.8m) and (3' x 6') or approx. 900mm x 1800mm ( 90cm x 1.8m) with many designs available in both sizes. Certain designs are only available in 600mm x 600mm (60cm x 60cm) as they were originally designed. Designs for specialist applications such as ornamental centre panels, corners and extension panels are available in a variety of unique sizes. Please check each individual design on the website for available panel sizes.
Are the panels all heat and rust resistant?
Yes, the aluminium panels are heat and rust resistant and suitable for behind stove tops, heaters and combustion heaters. The Australian Pressed Metal Group has had THEIR premium 0 GRADE Aluminium specifically manufactured for the Australian Pressed Metal Group fire rated by CSIRO.
Do I need to paint the panels?
No. Our pressed metal / tin panels are manufactured from premium quality 0 grade aluminium, which has a similar appearance of brushed stainless steel. 0 grade aluminium is a hygienic food grade aluminium and does not need to be painted or coated if you like a metallic look. We do not recommend powder coating splashbacks.
If you prefer to paint the panels, this is easy to do. Prime first using a coat of metal etch primer (which is readily available from our suppliers and from DIY stores) and then paint using any colour or finish (gloss, matt, satin) to match your decor using a brush, foam roller or spray gun.

Australian Pressed Metal offer a full installation service by professional licensed tradesmen with no job too large or small. We are also Heritage specialists. We are more than happy to give confident DIY’ers or your installer a helping hand. So if you need some advice – just give us a shout. We provide full instructions with the panels. We will answer any questions you may have about the process, tools or how to create different finishes.

What's the best method to clean my pressed metal panels?
Our pressed metal / tin panels (as they are often called) are not made of tin, but of premium-quality 0 grade aluminium. They are very lightweight, but durable. Cared for in the right way they can last for many years (ceilings for over 100 years).
Cleaning instructions
Aluminium panels and painted finishes can be damaged by abrasive cleaners or scourers. To clean, wipe with a soft damp cloth or warm soapy water and dry using a microfibre cloth, or a soft polishing cloth. Silicon-free wax based polish can also be used to create shine and preserve lustre on the raw aluminium finish..

What's involved with the ordering process?
Once you have chosen your design, let us know the quantity you need and we will get back to you with a quote. Alternatively if you provide us with a photo of the area and your measurements we can work out how many panels you will need and provide you with a quote. We are also more than happy to offer advice on the best designs for your project if the choice is too overwhelming.
