Project DescriptionWater leaks & wood rot contributed to the partial collapse of the original pressed metal verandah of the Woodville Hotel. A complete new verandah ceiling / lining was required & Adelaide Pressed Metal were contacted to assess the damage & advise on work required. The team at Adelaide Pressed Metal worked with the builder & Heritage architect on the restoration. The original existing pressed metal ceiling was too damaged to repair & had to be carefully unpicked & taken down. A piece of the original panel in the best condition was salvaged to be used to replicate the original design. A fully suspended concealed rondo grid system was installed & lined with 6mm CFC in preparation for the new pressed metal panels. A die of the original pressed metal design was produced & named Chrysler as it has similar design elements and era of the Chrysler building in New York. Heritage architects instructed exact like for like replacement to the original pressed metal ceiling. The cornice used is the Pacific cornice & is in production in aluminium, however to get the cornice pliable to fit the curve it was pressed in soft zinc then custom fit to match the exact curve of the original verandah. The batten used is the Turret batten & it is in production in aluminium, however it was also pressed in soft zinc in order to replicate the custom curve of the verandah ceiling. The exact layout of the Chrysler pattern was replicated per the original ceiling, bordered with fine roughcast pressed metal & the soft zinc turret batten. Work was completed within a 3 week timeline by the experienced Adelaide Pressed Metal team. Painting was done by others.
