  • Project Description
Adelaide Pressed Metal were excited to be a part of the set building for the movie New Boy starring Cate Blanchett, filmed in the mid North region of South Australia around 2 hours out of Adelaide. After looking at the plans proposed for the set buildings of a Monastery & Church we advised of panel designs that were appropriate to the era & worked closely with the designers to create an authentic asthetic for the movie. All pressed metal was supplied & installed by a team of our skilled installers, working to schedule with the design team from the movie. Several trips lasting up to 5 days at a time over 3 weeks were required to complete the work with our teams staying in accomodation close to the movie set. The MONASTERY included over 300 pressed metal sandstone blocks with picketed quoins on the exterior. The pressed metal design Renaissance was selected to line the walls in the Monasterys sitting room & Doms room covering over 120 square metres. Our team even included some last minute plastering of the fireplace. The CHURCH exterior was more ornate than the Monastery & included the design Floriani, traditionally used as a dado. It was used stacked vertically, to create an ornate exterior & finished with the Commonwealth batten as a base border. Inside the Church, the design Waratah was chosen to line the wall behind the altar, making it a focal point of the church. Several challenges with the project were the remoteness of the site & the necessity to live away from home for our team. All materials had to be transported to site as there was no nearby hardware store if extra supplies were needed.
