Create new die for Fishscale Roof Tile. Replace damaged tiles, fascia, gutters, vents and ridge capping and repair and restore original where possible
  • Project Description
The Fishscale Tile shingles on the turret roof of this 1899 Heritage listed property were in need of repair and restoration. Stamping on the back of the original shingle dated back to 1896 in England by Lysart. A new single Fishscale Tile die was cast from the original tile and pressed in heritage Galv. Manufacture of each single tile was approximately 20 minutes per tile as each tile was stamped with a lap seam join and guillotined. An estimation of 40 tiles to be replaced originally when turret was assessed by drone and from the ground was changed to 160 tiles for this project as work progressed and all bottom tile shingles were rusted beyond repair. Traditional construction methods were followed using a Petersburg join to reinstate the tiles. Restoration was carried out on facias, gutters, tiles, vents and ridge caps. Metal was folded to match original facias and installed with the gutter connected. Tiles that could be restored were sanded, restored and finished painted in the colour Flint.
