  • Project Description
Adelaide Pressed Metal worked closely with Heritage Architects, BB Architects, on the refurbishment and restoration of the verandah awning on the Duke of Brunswick Hotel in Gilbert Street Adelaide. The existing pressed metal on the verandah ceiling and the cornice was badly damaged and rusted beyond repair. The original pressed metal designs were readily available and in production through Adelaide Pressed Metal, however with the original cornice a new die was required. This was achieved by using an original piece of the cornice that was in good repair and a new die was created from this, completed with matching mitres. The cornice recreated was the 'Poppy' cornice a large and dramatic cornice with a profile of 400mm. The 'Charlton' design was installed to the verandah ceiling bordrered by the 'Carlton' border design, all panels were etch primed ready to be painted and were installed over a substrate of marine grade ply installed by the builder. Adelaide Pressed Metal completed the project with final painting of the verandah and cornice facade to colours specified by the Heritage Architect.
